POOLER, Ga.----The second-year Lander men's golf team made quite a statement Monday in the first round of the eight-team NCAA Division II Southeast Regional when the Bearcats finished second at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. The tournament continues Tuesday and Wednesday with one round on each day. The top four teams will advance to the NCAA national championship in Allendale, Mich., May 22-25.
Columbus State, the No. 3-ranked team in the country, leads the team competition with a 15-over par 303 and is followed by: 2. Lander 313, 3. USC Upstate and Presbyterian 330, 5. USC Aiken and Armstrong Atlantic State 320, 7. Georgia College & State University 323, and 8. North Greenville 351.
Individually for the Bearcats, freshman Jake Amos is in second place with a 3-over par 75, Charlie Hoyle eighth with 77, Patrick Wilson 15th with 80, Cooper Tinsley 23rd with 81, and Billy Belair 27th with 82.
Columbus State's Andrew Georgiou leads the individual competition with a 73.
Lander, which is unranked, is ahead of No. 7 USCA, No. 8 GCSU, No. 11 Armstrong Atlantic, No. 12 USC Upstate and No. 18 Presbyterian.
