PEMBROKE, N.C.----The Lander volleyball team claimed its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season Friday night when the Bearats defeated UNC Pembroke, 3-1.
Lander improves to 17-6 overall and 1-2 in the PBC, while UNCP drops to 15-11, 2-2.
Kay Stewart led Lander with 16 kills and 5 digs, while Sara Senn posted a double-double with 14 kills and 28 digs, and Andrea Griffin had 14 kills, five solo blocks and two block assists. Candace LaRocca led Lander with 52 assists, Melissa Trippany added 39 digs, Ashley Ferry 19 digs and Larocca and Katerina Prosser, 14 and 10 respectively.
UNCP was led by Jessica Hartley (15 kills), Rebekah Niesborella (13 kills, 18 digs), Rachel Young (13 kills, five digs), Lizzie O'Connor (12 kills, five digs), Heather Fierce (52 assists, 35 digs, six kills), Andrea Laza (36 digs), and Kayla Marbert (18 digs).
