NEW LONDON, N.C.----Billy Belair recorded his first-ever hole-in-one Monday in the first round of the two-day Johnny Palmer Invitational and held on Tuesday to win medalist honors with a 4-under par 212 at the Old North State Golf Club. The tournament was hosted by Pfeiffer University.
Belair shot consecutive rounds of 73-68-71 to become the first Lander player to win a collegiate tournament since the Bearcats inaugurated the golf program last year.
Lander finished third of 18 teams, its best finish in a tournament. USC Upstate won the team title, followed by Coastal Carolina and Lander.
Other Lander golfers were: Jake Amos 78-70-74=222, Charlie Hoyle 81-75-64=230, Brian Cote' 79-77-75=231 and Patrick Wilson 78-74-81=233.
