Good, Ponds lead Lander past District of Columbia, 72-62

WASHINGTON, D.C.----Tiara Good scored 23 points  and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Stephanie Ponds added 20 points and 11 rebounds Sunday afternoon to lead the Lander women's basketball team to a 72-62 non-conference victory over the University of District of Columbia Redbirds.

Lander improves to 3-2 overall, while the Redbirds drop to 2-4.

Good connected on 8 of 20 field goals, including 3 of 6 three-point shots. She also made 4 of 6 free throws. Ponds made 10 of 20 from the field. Keyatta Norman added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Jennifer Jones scored 17 points for the Redbirds, while Gabriella Richardson added 12 points and 12 rebounds and Tiffany Church 11 points.

Lander, which trailed 35-34 at halftime, made 29 of 74 field goals for 39 percent, 8 of 24 three pointers (33.3 percent) and 6 of 12 free throws (50 percent). The Redbirds wer 24 of 79 (30.4 percent) from the field and 9 of 17 (52.9 percent) from the free throw line.

Lander committed 23 turnovers, compared to UDC's 16.

Lander will host Erskine College in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday at Horne Arena. The women's game will begin at 5:30 with the men's contest to follow at approximately 7:30.
