COLUMBUS, Ga.----Lander's Billy Belair shot a 2-under par 69 Monday and is tied for sixth place individually after the first day of the Aflac/Cougar Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by Columbus State University at the Green Island Country Club. Valdosta State leads the team competition with a low 6-under par 278, followed by: 2. Georgia College and West Florida 283, 4. Columbus State 286, 5. Barry 287, 6. North Alabama 288, 7. Lander and Catawba 289, 9. Nova Southeastern and USC Aiken 293, 11 Belmont Abbey, UNC Pembroke and Armstrong Atlantic 295, 14. USC Upstate 300, 15. Presbyterian 301, 16. Coker 302, 17. Belair had eight birdies, including three straight at Nos. 2-4, but suffered a seven on the par-3 sixteenth hole. Other Lander golfers, with places and scores, are: 11th Jake Amos, 70, 57th Bryan Newton and Charlie Hoyle 75, and 74th Mark Vanadia 77.
