CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College's senior center Cameron Cook tallied 16 points and 11 boards to lead the Lady Blue Hose to a 101-67 victory over Lander University in the women's SAC/PBC Clash Saturday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.
Cook led four players in double figures which included fellow seniors Rebecca Wessinger and Wesley Campbell, who tallied 11 points apiece. Sophomore guard Amy Jones added 10 points and four assists in the victory.
Lander opened the game on an 8-0 run before PC responded with 23-4 run over the next 10 minute to pull ahead 23-12 at the 8:57 mark on a layup by Jones. The lead increased to as many as 18 points in the first half, but the Bearcats closed the half on an 8-0 run trail 43-33 at intermission.
Nine different players scored for the Lady Blue Hose in the first half as Jones led the way with seven points. Lander was led in scoring by junior guard Bryony Crouch, who tallied 10 points on two-of-five shooting from beyond the arc.
In the second half, PC pushed the lead to as many as 36 points as the team shot 73.1% from the field on 19-of-26 shooting. Lander struggled to shoot 35.3% from the floor after intermission. The Lady Blue Hose dominated the backboards to a 50-33 advantage and dished out 22 assists on 32 field goals. Freshman Morgan Johnson came off the bench to grab 11 rebounds.
Lander (1-2) was led on the night by Bryony Crouch who tallied a game-high 22 points while freshman center Shaquanta Glaze added 15 points and seven boards. Freshman forward Bobby Jo Grooms rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points.
Presbyterian improves to 3-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2001-02 season, while Lander drops to 1-2 on the season.
