Record Book Still Rewritten at Weather-Shortened Electric City Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Electric City Invitational was cut short due to inclement weather on Saturday, but the Lander track & field teams turned in a strong showing across two days with a wave of record-breaking performances.

In distance events, multiple Bearcats rewrote the record book. Amara Hille set a new school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:49, while Jon Cummings matched the feat on the men's side with a record-setting 10:18.

Carly Fuel delivered one of the top finishes of the meet, placing second overall in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:54 while breaking the school record. Noah Chevalier also set a new program mark in the men's 5,000 meters, finishing in 15:15.

Dylan Gilder led the way in the field events, placing fourth in the javelin with a mark of 51.40 meters, breaking his own school record.

Kaylee Spangler added another record on the women's side, finishing seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.80 meters to set a new program mark.

On the track, the women's 4x100-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 47.39, setting a new school record while also moving to No. 1 in the Peach Belt Conference rankings.

Tymia Willis continued the record-breaking trend in the 400 meters, placing fifth with a time of 56.08 to set a new school record and a personal best.

Mike Balkman turned in a standout performance in the men's 400 meters, placing third with a time of 47.25. His mark not only broke the school record and set a personal best, but also ranks 19th nationally, currently within a qualifying position for the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Karson Norman also delivered a strong effort in the 400 meters, running a personal-best time of 48.30 to place fifth overall.

In sprint events, Kalyna McLaren and Journey Edward each advanced to the finals of the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles, respectively, but were unable to compete in the finals due to weather conditions.

The Lander distance squad will compete at the Lee Fast Break Athletics Invitational on April 10th and 11th before the whole team competes in their final regular season meet on the 17th and 18th at Winthrop.
