ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – With back-to-back championships on their mind, the No. 6 Lander women's golf team came up just short but still brought home the runner-up trophy from the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Championship contested Sunday through Tuesday.
Held at The King & Bear Golf Course at World Golf Village, the Bearcats finished at +52 in a tie with North Georgia. They were six shots back of champion and host Flagler. Columbus State (+86) and USC Beaufort (+93) were the other schools in the top-five.
Lander scored a collective 295 in the final round to gain 12 shots on the Nighthawks, who led after the first and second rounds, to force the tie.
Sakurako Tanaka (+12) earned a spot on the All-Conference Team as she finished in sole possession of fourth place. Tanaka, the 2023 winner as a freshman, grabbed her third top-five in four years of playing in this tournament.
She shot 76/74/78 and was second in par-4 scoring and sixth on the par-5s. Tanaka's six birdies placed her second in the field, a number she paired with 32 pars.
Josefine Winkle (+15) posted the lowest score of the tournament during the final round with a two-under 70. She carded a trio of birdies this afternoon and had 33 pars throughout the tournament while placing second in par-4 scoring average (4.23).
Winkle, who tied for seventh, matched her career-best result in this event from 2024.
Lara Stifter also slotted in seventh after scores of 76/79/76. The Germany-native made five birdies to finish top-three in the field in the category. She was also second in par-4 scoring alongside Tanaka and Winkle.
A pair of Swedish players in
Isabel Ewers and
Kajsa Lindqvist tied for 11th at +18. They both found their lowest score of the week to close the tournament, shooting 74 and 75, respectively. Both made five birdies this week and Ewers made 31 pars with Lindqvist close behind (30).
