OKATIE, S.C. – Lander men's golf finished 11th at this week's Oldfield Classic hosted by USC Beaufort at Oldfield Club.
The Bearcats shot a collective 909 in a tournament that featured 16 teams and four Top 15 programs.
No. 8 Georgia Southwestern topped a tightly packed team leaderboard at +5. No. 9 Catawba was two shots back of the Hurricanes and sixth-ranked Wingate was a shot behind the Indians.
No. 12 Columbus State finished 19-over in fourth, followed by Drexel (+26).
Lander was tied for third place after yesterday's opening round – just three shots back of second.
Similarly,
Edward Rahm was tied for second after posting a 72 in the first round. Rahm, who led the field with 14 birdies and in par-5 scoring (-7), scored a pair of 74s in the second and third rounds to finish four-over in a tie for 16th.
Cathal Penney (+11, T-32nd) carded a 74 to begin the tournament, a 76 in the middle round and a 77 this afternoon. Penney made birdie nine times and eagled the 534-yard 8th hole in the second round.
Garrett Gillespie (+15) showed improvement each round, going 80/76/75 while collecting four birdies during the week.
With his second-round 73,
Filip Yngfalk had the second-lowest round of the week for LU. He had five birdies during the tournament and was +16.
Aiden Aguilar (+25) shot 81/79/81 in his second career event.
Lander's Greenwood Men's Invitational is in two weeks (March 9-10) at Greenwood Country Club.
