PENSACOLA, Fla. – Part of a stacked field with nine Top 25 teams, the Lander men's golf team finished 10th at +9 (873) at this week's Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola Country Club.
Top-ranked and host West Florida won the tournament at 25-under. They were three shots up on No. 3 Lee at -22. Ninth-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) was -16 in a tie for third with No. 4 Florida Southern. Wingate (-11) matched their national ranking in fifth.
The Bearcats – who are ranked 35th by Clippd and 10th in the Southeast Region – bested No. 26 Flagler, a team that is ranked eighth in the Southeast, by 24 shots.
Edward Rahm picked up a top-20 finish in 19th at one-under-par. He shot 70/71/74 and made eagle on a pair of holes this week – 8 and 12, both par-5s. Rahm also had nine birdies and was fifth in par-5 scoring at -8 with a 4.33 stroke average.
Cathal Penney (+5) ripped up the course this afternoon with a four-under 68. Five of his 11 birdies came in that final round as he jumped 25 places to finish T-44th with the third-lowest round in the field all week (there were 87 players).
Filip Yngfalk (+6) also had his lowest output of the tournament today when he scored 70. He had four birdies over the final 18 holes and eight total over his three rounds.
Noah Curdt was one stroke behind Yngfalk at +7 with scores of 72/76/75. He had 38 pars and six birdies.
Aaron Lin's (+9) 72 in the final round was his best score this week. Lin sank nine birdies altogether.
Lander has three weeks to prepare for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament April 19-21 at The King & Bear Golf Course at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla.
