No. 21 Lander Blanks Newberry 7-0 Behind Complete Road Performance

Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - The No. 21 Lander men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Newberry 7-0 on the road to remain unbeaten at 5-0 on the season.

The Bearcats controlled the match from the start, securing the doubles point and winning all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the shutout victory.

Lander took early command in doubles play as the No. 2 pair of Julian Peter and Max Barriere set the tone with a decisive 6-1 win over Senthen Reddy and Sohei Kamiyama. The Bearcats clinched the doubles point moments later when Benjamin Bates and Brendan Jayaprakash earned a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles against Martin Posada Garcia and Noel Bartz.

Harry Pugh and Anton Krondell added a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Daniel Watson and Lucas Mruk to complete the doubles sweep.

Carrying momentum into singles, Barriere was first off the court, extending Lander's lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Reddy. Jayaprakash followed with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles against Posada Garcia to make it 3-0.

Ismail ElShafei clinched the match for the Bearcats at No. 4 singles, defeating Bartz 6-1, 6-2 to secure the team victory. Peter added another point at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kamiyama, and Chan Min rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles against Evan Phillips.

Pugh capped the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Watson, securing Lander's third sweep of the season.

Lander returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 18, hosting Georgia Gwinnett in an exhibition match at 1:30 p.m. at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
