Pugh Reaches Singles Final, Joins Jayaprakash in Doubles Final at ITA Regionals

SUMTER, S.C. - The Lander men's tennis team will compete for two regional titles Monday after Harry Pugh advanced to the singles championship match and teamed with Brendan Jayaprakash to reach the doubles final at the ITA Division II Southeast Regional Championships at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

The eighth-seeded doubles duo secured its second consecutive appearance in the regional championship match Sunday with an 8-2 victory over Martino Colabella and Riku Ogasawara of Wingate in the semifinals.

Pugh and Jayaprakash entered Sunday's competition following three consecutive victories, including an 8-4 upset of fourth-seeded A. Krondell and Alex Despoja of North Georgia in Saturday's quarterfinals.

The pair will look to capture the regional doubles title after finishing as runners-up in last year's championship match. The Bearcats will face Radu Florea and Jakub Hrasek of Lincoln Memorial in Monday's 1 p.m. final.

In singles competition, top-seeded Pugh continued his run through the main draw, defeating sixth-seeded Marcos Castellanos of North Georgia 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before earning a 7-5, 6-4 victory over ninth-seeded Isaac Yang Lay of Lees-McRae in the semifinals to secure a spot in the championship match.

Pugh will make his second consecutive appearance in the regional singles final after reaching the championship match last year. He will face second-seeded Simon Malis of Flagler, a familiar Peach Belt Conference opponent, in Monday's final.

Pugh entered Sunday's action following three straight-set victories, including a 6-4, 6-4 win over Romain Payan of Tusculum in Saturday's round of 16.

Lander will return to action Monday as Pugh looks to capture the regional singles title before joining Jayaprakash in pursuit of the doubles championship.
