Bearcats Sweep UNC Pembroke to Stay Perfect at Home

GREENWOOD - Lander kept its home dominance intact Tuesday night, sweeping UNC Pembroke 3-0 inside Horne Arena to improve to 5-0 at home and 8-5 overall. The Bearcats controlled the match from start to finish, taking the sets 25-12, 25-20 and 25-17.

The Bearcats were sharp offensively, doubling up the Braves in kills (44-24) while hitting .278 as a team compared to UNC Pembroke's .074. Lander also led in digs (48-41) and service aces (9-4). More importantly, the Bearcats dictated the tempo, especially in the second set when the Braves threatened but never truly put Lander under pressure.

Outside hitter Katie Miller powered the attack with a match-high 15 kills on .333 hitting while also serving six aces, which tied her career high. Her serving run in the first set turned an even start into a blowout, setting the tone for the rest of the night. Karson Browning added 12 kills at a .500 clip, and Alyssa Tegeler chipped in seven kills while hitting .583.

Setter Enisilina Savelio quietly controlled the offense with 37 assists, keeping the Braves' block off balance. She consistently spread the ball between Miller, Browning and Tegeler, who each found ways to finish points efficiently.

On defense, libero Emmi Cheek collected a match-high 12 digs while Sam Alwardt added 11. Middle blocker Amelia May anchored the net with four blocks, frustrating UNC Pembroke's hitters throughout the night.

The Bearcats will look to keep their momentum as Peach Belt play continues when they host rival Augusta on Friday, Oct. 3, in their Code Blue match at 7 p.m. inside Horne Arena.
