Olivia Bond’s Brace Leads #7 Lander to Bounceback Win over LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Freshman Olivia Bond scored twice in just over three minutes of the third quarter to spark the seventh-ranked Lander field hockey team to a 2-1 comeback win over Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite firing 10 first-half shots on target, the Bearcats (6-1, 3-1 SAC) were held scoreless through 30 minutes. The defense was dominant in that stretch, not allowing LMU a single attempt.

The Railsplitters broke through in the 38th minute, capitalizing after goalkeeper Avery Tworkoski made three consecutive saves, as Olivia Rosini finally pushed the ball over the line for a 1-0 lead.

Lander wasted little time in its response. Just 95 seconds later, graduate midfielder Julia Matthijssen delivered a penalty corner to Leira Van Tilburg, who slipped a pass to Bond for a backhand finish that leveled the score. Bond struck again in the 42nd minute, redirecting another penalty corner into the cage for her third goal of the season and first career brace.

Senior goalkeeper Isabel Elenga preserved the advantage in the fourth quarter, making a key save as Lander limited LMU to just two total shots in the period.

The Bearcats finished with a 14-7 edge in shots and an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Lander continues its road trip Friday night, visiting Belmont Abbey for a 7 p.m. pushback.
