Bearcats close road stretch with dominant sweep of Middle Georgia

MACON, Ga. - Lander volleyball wasted no time finding its rhythm Saturday afternoon, convincingly sweeping Middle Georgia to secure its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season. The Bearcats rolled to set scores of 25-9, 25-18, and 25-21, handing the Knights their eighth loss of the season.

It was a response Lander needed after dropping a five-set battle at Georgia College less than 24 hours earlier. Instead of carrying any fatigue, the Bearcats played efficiently throughout from the opening serve.

Katie Miller led the way with 20 kills on a .415 hitting percentage. Setter Enisilina Savelio directed the attack with 40 assists while spreading the offense to multiple options.

Amelia May (10 kills, .533, three blocks) and Alyssa Tegeler (six kills, .600, four blocks) provided balance at the net, while libero Emmi Cheek anchored the back row with a match-high 13 digs.

The Bearcats held a clear advantage statistically, finishing with a 48-23 edge in kills, 45-21 in assists, and 48-36 in digs. Lander also controlled the serve with seven aces compared to three for Middle Georgia and posted an 8-4 advantage in blocks.

The control was established by the Bearcats in the opening frame, holding Middle Georgia to just two kills and a -.129 hitting percentage. The Knights found more rhythm in the second and third sets, but Lander maintained steady side-out play to complete the sweep.

After a grueling five-match road stretch, the Bearcats will finally return to Greenwood on Tuesday, Sept. 30, hosting UNC Pembroke inside Finis Horne Arena at 6 p.m.
