PENSACOLA, Fla. – In a field with six top-10 teams and eight in the top-25, the No. 19 Lander men's golf team (-14) finished in fifth place out of 14 teams at this week's Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola Country Club.
Host West Florida, the No. 2 team in D-II, won the tournament with a score of -34, nine shots ahead of second place and eighth-ranked Georgia Southwestern (-25). No. 3 North Georgia was third at -22, and No. 13 Columbus State (-19) finished fourth.
Lander finished ahead of a trio of top-10 teams in Lincoln Memorial (No. 4), Lee (No. 6) and USC Aiken (No. 9). The Blue and Gold were five strokes ahead of the Railsplitters, 10 ahead of the Flames and 19 in front of the Pacers.
Noah Curdt was first on the player leaderboard for the Bearcats this week at -2 in a 23rd-place tie. Curdt started off hot with a 70-69 combo in his first two rounds with a combined seven birdies.
Teammate
Gaston Edberg was also part of that tie for 23rd, and he saved his best for last today with an incredible six-under 66. Edberg's 10 birdies throughout the tournament were the second-most on the team.
Aaron Lin finished the week at even-par 216 with his lowest score (70) coming during the second round.
One shot behind Lin in a tie for 38th was
Edward Rahm. Rahm carded scores of 71 and 78 in his first two rounds before closing with a five-birdie final-round 68.
Victor Larsson (+2) was the final Bearcat on the leaderboard with scores of 70-74-74.
The Bearcats will compete in the Peach Belt Conference Championship next Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 18-20) at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
