Bearcats Drop Doubleheader Against No. 10 North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Lander Bearcats (12-9, 3-2 PBC) were unable to overcome No. 10 North Georgia (18-4, 5-0 PBC) in a Saturday doubleheader, falling 10-2 in the opening game and 10-5 in the second game.

Game one - North Georgia 10, Lander 2

North Georgia built an early 3-0 lead by the third inning before Lander responded in the fourth.

Reagan Hill sparked the offense with a single, followed by an RBI hit from Raquel Camuglia to put the Bearcats on the board.

A sacrifice fly from Bella Angeli allowed Emily Allen to score, narrowing the gap to 3-2. However, the Nighthawks answered with a run in the fifth before delivering a decisive six-run sixth inning to seal the victory.

Kamryn Akins (6-2) took the loss for Lander, allowing three runs over three innings. Alyssa Grimes entered in relief but struggled against North Georgia's aggressive hitting.

Offensively, the Bearcats recorded three hits, with Camuglia, Hill, and Gracie Derrick each contributing one.

Game two - North Georgia 10, Lander 5

The Bearcats showed resilience in the second game, keeping pace with the tenth-ranked Nighthawks in a high-scoring battle. After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Lander struck back in the second with Angeli's RBI double to cut the deficit to 2-1.

North Georgia extended its lead with a five-run third inning, but the Bearcats refused to back down. A two-run fourth inning, highlighted by a double from Kara VonAchen, kept Lander within striking distance at 9-3.

The Bearcats continued to apply pressure in the sixth, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to plate two more runs and make it a 9-5 contest.

However, North Georgia tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Mattye Geddings (2-2) took the loss for Lander, while Chloe Poss (6-2) picked up the win for North Georgia.
