Bearcats Drop Series Finale to No. 10 Nighthawks Despite Late Push

Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Despite a resilient effort in the final game of the three-game series, Lander (12-10, 3-3 PBC) fell 10-2 to No. 10 North Georgia (19-4, 6-0 PBC) on Sunday. The Bearcats showed their fight late in the game but couldn't overcome the early deficit against the nationally ranked Nighthawks.

Lander's offensive highlight came in the fifth inning when freshman Kara VonAchen hit her first career two-run homer to right-center, bringing home Reagan Hill and cutting into North Georgia's lead. The Bearcats collected five hits in the game, with VonAchen's long ball marking their biggest moment at the plate.

On the defensive side, Lander settled in after a tough first inning, where North Georgia posted eight runs.

North Georgia capitalized on early opportunities, opening the game with a big first inning that included a two-RBI double from Carleigh Knowles and a series of timely hits. Lander's defense tightened up as the game progressed, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Gracie Derrick led the Bearcats at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a .667 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. VonAchen also had a standout performance, hitting a two-run homer, finishing 1-for-2 with a 2.000 slugging percentage and two RBIs. Hill contributed with a double, going 1-for-2 and scoring a run.

The Bearcats will look to bounce back in their upcoming doubleheader at Catawba on Wednesday, March 12. The first game will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C., at Whitely Field.
