Three Late Homers Lift Lander to Doubleheader Split with Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lander University softball team (14-13, 4-5 PBC) showed resilience on Saturday, bouncing back in game two with a late-inning power surge to secure a doubleheader split against Georgia College (15-13, 9-3 PBC). After being shut out 3-0 in the opener, the Bearcats bounced back with a thrilling 6-4 victory in the nightcap, fueled by three home runs in the final two innings.

Game One: Georgia College 3, Lander 0

The Bearcats struggled to generate offense in the opening game, managing just two hits against Georgia College's dominant pitcher, Tiffany Caban (7-2), who tossed a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts.

The Bobcats jumped ahead early, scoring all three of their runs in the first two innings.

Lander's Jacy Ayers (0-2) put together a solid outing despite taking the loss, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits over six innings. Sajarie Jones and Holly Griffin were the only Bearcats to record hits in the contest.

Game Two: Lander 6, Georgia College 4

The bats came alive in the second game for the Bearcats. Kara VonAchen, Samantha Bumgarner, and Raquel Camuglia all delivered clutch home runs to power the Bearcats to a comeback victory.

After trailing 3-0 through five innings, VonAchen got Lander on the board with a solo homer in the sixth. Bumgarner followed with a two-run shot to center, tying the game at 3-3.

In the seventh, Camuglia delivered the biggest swing of the game, crushing a three-run homer to left field to give Lander a 6-3 lead.

The Bobcats managed one run in the bottom of the inning, but Mattye Geddings (3-2) shut the door with a dominant relief performance, striking out six over 4.2 innings to earn the win.

Bumgarner finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Sajarie Jones also collected two hits and scored a run.
