GREENWOOD – The Lander men's lacrosse team fell 21-14 to No. 17 Anderson in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium in their first home game in nearly a month.
Eight Bearcats (5-4) contributed a goal against the Trojans (5-2), led by
Carter Wilcox and
Jeremy Wudrick's three apiece.
Zane Dalpe, this past week's Peach Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and
Levi Roest scored twice.
Bradley Brown,
Brady Foote,
Chase Hanson and
Michael Mattaliano all added one.
Wilcox had five assists to lead the team with eight points.
Anderson scored the first two goals of the game before Wilcox found Wudrick to get Lander on the board seven minutes in.
Following another Trojan goal, Dalpe made it 3-2 with 5:50 to play in the quarter; AU led 6-3 after 15 minutes.
Brown trimmed the gap to 6-4 five minutes into the second quarter before the Trojans scored three in a row. Wilcox and Dalpe then tacked on a pair for a 9-6 halftime score.
Anderson outscored Lander 7-3 in the third quarter to widen its advantage to 16-9. Each side scored five times in the fourth and final quarter for the final tally – Wilcox, Roest and Mattaliano closed the scoring over a span of 1:34 near the end of the game.
The Bearcats return to Van Taylor Stadium in their next game on Saturday (March 22). Face-off with North Greenville is scheduled for noon.
