Lander Secures Road Victory Over USC Sumter, 5-2

SUMTER, S.C. - The Lander University men's tennis team continued its court dominance with a convincing 5-2 win over USC Sumter on Friday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The Bearcats (8-2) set the tone in doubles play and carried that momentum into singles action, securing their eighth win of the year.

Doubles Recap

Lander took two out of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. The top duo of Markus Sorensen and Ludvig Danielsson controlled their match, dispatching Jakub Sevcik and Stanley Long 8-3. 

While USC Sumter responded with a victory at the No. 3 spot, Lander's No. 2 tandem of Max Barriere and Benjamin Bates delivered in a tightly contested match, edging Andre Dogbefu and Aki Harada 9-7 (7-4 TB) to clinch the doubles point for the Bearcats.

Singles Recap

In singles play, Lander's depth proved to be the difference. Julian Peter made quick work of Aki Harada at No. 2, winning 6-4, 6-2, while Benjamin Bates cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Dogbefu at No. 3. 

David Velasco added another point for the Bearcats with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 4. Fabian Billton sealed the match at No. 6, defeating Aaron Gutierrez 6-3, 6-2. 

USC Sumter managed to grab two wins, including a hard-fought three-set battle at No. 5, where Sevcik edged Danielsson 6-4, 1-6, 10-8. The Fire Ants also picked up a point at No. 1, with Gian Rojas Rodriguez besting Brendan Jayaprakash 6-4, 6-3.

UP NEXT 
The Bearcats will be back in action on Monday, March 17, in Belmont, N.C., for a 2 p.m. match against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
