Bearcats Stay Perfect at Home, Defeat Trailblazers

GREENWOOD - The Lander men's tennis team remained undefeated at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center on Tuesday, defeating North Greenville University 5-0. The Bearcats (7-2) set the tone early in doubles play and carried that momentum into singles competition to secure the decisive victory over the Trailblazers (4-8).

Doubles Recap

Lander took control in doubles, claiming the first two completed matches to secure the point. The duo of Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash did quick work at No. 2 doubles, defeating Christo Timini and Juan Jose Arbelaez 6-2. 

Moments later, the Bearcats clinched the doubles point as Merlin Bellet and Max Barriere rolled past Juho Kantola and Will Hernandez 6-2 at the top spot. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Ludvig Danielsson and Benjamin Bates remained unfinished, with the Lander pair leading 5-2.

Singles Recap

In singles play, the Bearcats stayed in command, winning four straight matches to claim the team victory. At No. 1 singles, Pugh continued his dominance for Lander, dispatching Kantola 6-4, 6-3. 

Jayaprakash followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles over Dean Kingsley. Ismail ElShafei delivered a dominant performance at No. 4, cruising past Arbelaez 6-2, 6-2. Barriere then sealed the win with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory over Hernandez at No. 6. 

The matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles were left unfinished, with Bellet leading his contest and Julian Peter battling in a three-setter.

The Bearcats will travel to Sumter, S.C., for a 2:30 p.m. match against the USC Sumter Fire Ants on Friday, March 14.
