Bearcats Extend Win Streak with 6-1 Victory Over Francis Marion

GREENWOOD - The Lander University men's tennis team (6-1, 0-0 PBC) secured a decisive 6-1 victory over Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center, claiming the doubles point before taking control of the match in singles play.

Doubles Recap

The Bearcats opened the match strong in doubles, securing wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to clinch the opening point. The duo of Markus Sorensen and Ludvig Danielsson posted a commanding 6-1 victory at No. 3, while Max Barriere and Merlin Bellet mirrored the scoreline at No. 1. 

Although the Patriots (3-2) managed a win at No. 2, Lander had the early advantage.

Singles Recap

Lander continued its momentum in singles action, winning five of the six matches. Mouad Naoui set the tone with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance at No. 4, followed by Harry Pugh's hard-fought 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1. 

Bellet added to the Bearcats' lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2, while Ismail ElShafei and Brendan Jayaprakash secured wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. 

Francis Marion's lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Harri Lloyd-Evans edged Sorensen in a three-set battle.

The Bearcats will look to keep the streak going with a road match against Valdosta State on Tuesday, March 4. Doubles will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Valdosta, Ga.
