12 School Records Fall as Track and Field Wraps Two Days at Liberty Open

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Lander Men's and Women's Track and Field teams set 12 new program best marks over the weekend while competing in the Liberty Open. This was the last tune-up for the Bearcats before the Peach Belt Conference Indoor Championships being held on February 17th.

Records were broken across multiple disciplines including by Carly Fuel and Noah Chevalier in the 5000m. Fuel ran 18:57 and now holds the records for the 5000m, 3000m, and mile, all of which were set this season. Chevalier added the 5k record to his 3k record set two weeks ago at the JDL Fast Track with a finish of 15:44.83.

On the infield, Yiddisha Lyles broke the shot put record with a throw of 9.88m, which was also good for third in the conference this season. Khalil Wright set a program-best mark of 12.56m, which was also good for fifth in the league this season.

In the 400m, Tymia Willis ran a program-best 1:00.25 to set the fourth-best mark in the PBC this season while Michael Balkman ran 50.24 to set the record on the men's side.

The PBC Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place on February 17th at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center.
