GREENWOOD – Hosting the Emmanuel University (Ga.) Lions in the 2025 home-opener, the Lander men's lacrosse team enjoyed a dominant 26-9 win on Wednesday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
11 different Bearcats recorded a goal and two scored five times:
Carter Wilcox and
Zane Dalpe. Dalpe's five goals established a personal single-game high as a Bearcat.
Jeremy Wudrick also had a career-high four goals while
Will Maeder set a new personal high-mark with three.
Trevor Batastini found the back of the net twice for his first scores in a Lander uniform, and
Bradley Brown added a pair of his own.
Josh Davies,
Myles Guthrie,
Michael Mattaliano,
Daniel Quinn and
Levi Roest each scored once – Davies' and Quinn's were their first career goals.
Dalpe opened the scoring in a flash only six seconds into the game after
Breton Crewe found him following the opening face-off. That was the beginning of a 10-0 first quarter for the Blue and Gold.
Dalpe completed his hat-trick by the 3:48 mark of the game, and Wilcox soon completed his with 7:47 remaining in the first.
The Lions trimmed their deficit to 10-3 five minutes into the second quarter before Lander scored five of the last six goals in the opening half to go into halftime with a 15-4 advantage.
Emmanuel scored twice to open the second half but the Bearcats responded with an 8-0 run between the third quarter and early fourth for a 23-6 margin.
Each side scored three more times over the last 9:21 of the game – the freshmen pair of Guthrie and Quinn connected with 1:25 to go to cap the scoring.
Britton Weems had three caused turnovers and two ground balls on the defensive side of the field. Batastini and
Collen Ferrell both caused two turnovers.
Logan Dorcas won 24 of 30 face-offs (80%) and picked up 16 ground balls.
Lander has a 10-day break from game action prior to a neutral-site game against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, Feb. 15. That game will be played at 2:00 at Cavalry Day School in Savannah, Georgia.
