SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Lander men's lacrosse team dropped its first contest of the 2025 season 19-15 to Palm Beach Atlantic in a neutral-site matchup at Cavalry Day School on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats (2-1) had four players score three times apiece: this week's Peach Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Zane Dalpe,
Chase Hanson,
Levi Roest and
Carter Wilcox.
Bradley Brown netted two and
Michael Mattaliano had one.
Collen Ferrell caused two turnovers defensively and tied for the team lead with three ground ball pickups.
Wilcox opened the game's scoring 2:40 in but the Sailfish (1-0) had the next three.
Mattaliano found Roest halfway through the first quarter, and Roest also scored the equalizer with 5:58 to go in the opening quarter; PBA led 5-3 after 15 minutes.
The Sailfish made it a 6-3 score but Dalpe brought the deficit back down to two with 9:24 remaining in the half.
Hanson scored his first with 2:07 on the clock, though PBA carried a 9-5 lead into the break.
Both sides traded goals to begin the third quarter as the score sat at 11-7 three minutes in. Wilcox and Mattaliano helped cut the Sailfish's lead in half and made it 11-9 before PBA closed the third leading 14-10.
Each team fired home five goals over the final 15 minutes for the final tally.
Lander returns to Van Taylor Stadium for a home contest versus No. 3 Limestone on Wednesday night (Feb. 19). Face-off is scheduled for 7:00.
