GREENVILLE, S.C. – With 27 holes of play in the books,
Samuel Guigui-Baruchel is currently showing the way for the Lander men's golf team at 1-under par in a 5th-place tie at the Lander Bearcat Spring Invitational.
Five Bearcats are competing as individuals at the tournament being played at the Preserve at Verdae, rather than accruing a collective team score.
Guigui-Baruchel fired off a 71 on the par-72 course in the opening round as he tallied four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 9th. He is playing even-par golf thus far during his second round.
Aaron Lin is tied for 23rd at +2 after shooting an even-par 72 to start his tournament. Lin birdied two holes and had an eagle-3 on the par-5 14th in the first round.
Cody Brenner sits tied for 31st at four-over par. He had four birdies en route to an opening-round 73 and is +3 midway through the second.
The fourth Bearcat on the leaderboard is
Jake Wakeford (+5). Wakeford carded five birdies and an eagle – joining two of his teammates in doing so – in a first-round 74; the eagle came on the 3rd hole, a par-4.
Gaston Edberg shot a 78 in the first round though has shown marked improvement halfway through the second round, currently at +1. Edberg sank five birdies in that first round.
Golfers will tee off at 9:30 tomorrow morning and will conclude the second round before closing with the third and final round in the afternoon.
