PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Lander men's golf team competed in the Spring Bulldog Clash hosted by Barton College at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club on Monday and Tuesday and brought home a third-place finish after 54 holes with a score of 11-under.
Gaston Edberg was atop the player leaderboard by tournament's end as he earned his first career win at -12, one shot ahead of a competitor from Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Wingate (-15) won the tournament by one stroke over Arkansas-Fort Smith. Barton (-7) and Erskine (-6) completed the top-five.
Edberg put together rounds of 68-64-66 on the par-70 course. In all, Edberg carded 15 birdies this week in addition to a pair of eagles. His second round featured an incredible seven birdies, and his performance on par-5s helped separate him from the pack – he shot nine-under on those holes for the week to lead the field.
Edward Rahm (+1) was the next Bearcat finisher thanks to his final-round 67 that catapulted him 27 spots up the leaderboard. Rahm's round included four birdies and he had nine in all for the week.
Victor Larsson shot 70-73-70 to finish at three-over, and one shot behind him was teammate
Aaron Lin who had two rounds of 69 this week.
Rounding out the Lander leaderboard was
Samuel Guigui-Baruchel. His low-round of the tournament was a 69 in the second.
Lander is back in action this upcoming Monday and Tuesday (March 3-4) at Greenwood Country Club for the Lander Bearcat Classic.
