Bearcats Cruise Past Mountain Lions in 5-2 Road Win

Young Harris, Ga. -  Lander (4-1, 0-0 PBC) continued its strong start to the season with a commanding 5-2 victory over Young Harris (2-4) on the road. The Bearcats got ahead early in doubles play before sealing the win with a powerful singles performance at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex. 

Doubles Recap 

Lander set the tone in doubles, securing the crucial point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The duo of Benjamin Bates and Max Barriere delivered a solid 6-4 victory at the top spot, while Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash overwhelmed their opponents 6-2 at No. 2. 

Despite a setback at No. 3 doubles, where Markus Sorensen and Ludvig Danielsson fell 3-6, Lander entered singles with the momentum.

Singles Recap 

In singles action, the Bearcats showed resilience and depth. Harry Pugh made quick work of Young Harris's No. 1 player, cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 win. Merlin Bellet battled through a tough three-set match at No. 2, rallying from a set down to secure a 3-6, 6-4 (10-8) victory.

Lander sealed the win with dominant performances at the bottom of the lineup. Mouad Naoui delivered an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5, and Brendan Jayaprakash closed out the match in style, rolling to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6.

Although Young Harris secured wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions, Lander came out on top with a 5-2 match victory.

UP NEXT 
The Bearcats will look to keep dominating the courts in their upcoming home match against Newberry on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Doubles will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
