Balkman Wins Lander Track and Field's First PBC Title; Four Others Finish on Podium

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Michael Balkman ran a Peach Belt Indoor Record 48.30 in the 400m dash to claim the Lander Track and Field program's first ever individual Peach Belt Conference title on Monday at the Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Balkman also placed second in the 200m dash and was named the Indoor Male Co-Athlete of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Most Outstanding Athlete at the Championship; all firsts for the program as well.

As a team, the Lander men placed third with 41 points while the women placed fourth with 36 points.

The Bearcats had a podium finisher in both the men's and women's high jump as Gage Kukucka placed second with a jump of 1.89m for the men while Tamiya Mobley placed third on the women's side with a jump of 1.52m.

Lander also had a pair of top-three finishes in the relays. The women's Distance Medley Relay (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m) team of Amara Hille, Carly Fuel, Kaelynn Larose, and Kayla Barnhardt placed third in a time of 13:58.36 and the men's 4x400m relay team of Kendel Rollerson, Deidre Smith, Pharrell Martinez, and Balkman placed second in 3:20.42, just under a second from the top step of the podium.
