Bearcats Shutout Carson-Newman, Split the Day in the Bearcat Invitational

GREENWOOD - The Lander Bearcats (7-3, 0-0 PBC) opened the Bearcat Invitational with a big 4-0 shutout victory over Carson-Newman before falling to Young Harris in game two.

Game One - Lander 4, Carson-Newman 0

Lander wasted no time setting the tone as Emily Allen launched a two-run homer in the first inning, putting the Bearcats ahead 2-0 early.

The offense struck again in the third when Reagan Hill's single, plated Kaitlyn DeFranco to extend the lead.

A passed ball later in the third allowed Linda Moore to cross home, giving the Bearcats a 4-0 advantage that proved too much for the Eagles.

On the mound, Kamryn Akins was dominant, tossing a complete-game two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks. Carson-Newman's offense never found a rhythm, as Akins' control and Lander's defense kept them off the scoreboard.

Game Two - Young Harris 10, Lander 4

After shutting out Carson-Newman, Lander faced a tough Young Harris squad. The Mountain Lions took an early 3-0 lead with a second-inning homer and extended it to 6-0 by the sixth.

Lander fought back with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by Bella Angeli's RBI single and bases-loaded walks from Naya Jones and Gracie Derrick.

However, Young Harris answered with four runs in the seventh to put the game away.

Reagan Hill and Emily Allen stayed hot at the plate despite the loss, while Alyssa Grimes (0-1) took the loss in the circle.
