Bearcats beat Knights 3-0 to advance to PBC semifinals

GREENWOOD – In a match that featured an hour-plus lightning delay, the No. 20 and second-seeded Lander men's soccer team came away with a 3-0 PBC quarterfinal victory over the seventh-seeded Middle Georgia Knights on Saturday evening at Van Taylor Stadium.

The win advances the Bearcats to the semifinals where they will face No. 3 seed Flagler at home on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Christian Hatley, this year's PBC Offensive Player of the Year, was all over the stat sheet tonight with a goal and two assists in a four-point performance.

Sophomore Lucas Lindstrup added his first career goal, and Callum Stokes continued his recent hot stretch with the game's third goal.

Hatley got things going in the 28th minute when Giacomo Sartori sent him a perfect pass in the box that he pushed across while sliding for a 1-0 lead – which was also the score at halftime.

Following the delay that began just as halftime came to a close, Lindstrup made it 2-0 in the 59th minute. Hatley set him up beautifully in-stride in the box and Lindstrup went bottom-right with his left foot.

Stokes later used his height to his advantage by outjumping everyone on a corner kick that he headed-in for the three-goal margin in the 68th minute; it was his fifth goal in the last three games.

Lander outshot MGA 18-4 with 10 of those coming on net. Conrad Knight recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season and his eighth win overall.

Kick-off versus the Saints will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Van Taylor Stadium. Lander is 0-1-1 this season versus Flagler, with the most recent result being a 2-1 loss on Oct. 15.
