Lander Dominates Maryville for Tenth Win of the Season

DURHAM, N.C. – The Lander field hockey team scored three first-half goals and held the Maryville Saints without a shot as the Bearcats rolled to a 3-0 victory on Monday afternoon in a neutral-site matchup at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

The win marked Lander's 10th of the season — the third time in the program's four-year history that the Bearcats have reached double-digit victories, all coming in the past three years.

It also marked the second time this season that Lander has held an opponent without a shot or penalty corner, joining the 7-0 win over Barton on Oct. 7.

Lander opened the scoring less than five minutes into the match when Lauren Punt redirected a pass from Mikayla Bond into the cage for her second goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, Olivia Bond doubled the lead by converting a penalty stroke for her sixth goal of the year.

Dusty-Rose Miller extended the advantage in the 23rd minute, scoring for the second straight game and her third of the season to give Lander a 3-0 halftime lead.

Goalkeepers Isabel Elenga and Avery Tworkoski combined for the shutout — Lander's fourth clean sheet of the season.

Lander (10-3, 6-3 SAC) continues its road trip on Tuesday, Oct. 21, traveling to Wilson, N.C., to face Barton in a non-conference matchup at 2 p.m.
