Lander Duo Finishes as National Runners-Up After Gritty ITA Cup Final

ROME, Ga. - The Lander men's tennis duo of Brendan Jayaprakash and Harry Pugh capped an impressive run at the 2025 ITA Cup with a runner-up finish Sunday afternoon. The pair fell in a tight three-set match to No. 2-seeded West Florida's Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon in the national championship.

The match began outdoors at the Rome Tennis Center Court 13, where Jayaprakash and Pugh took control early to win the first set 6-3 with aggressive net play and consistent serving. Rain interrupted play at the start of the second set, forcing both teams to move indoors. Once play resumed, West Florida evened the match with a 7-5 win in the second set.

The championship came down to a tense third set, with both duos trading breaks and holding under pressure. In the deciding tiebreaker, Jayaprakash and Pugh continued to battle but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-5) as Duran and Rondon secured the title.

The runner-up finish caps a standout tournament for the Lander pair, who proved themselves among the best doubles teams in the country, knocking off both the No. 1 and No. 3 seeded teams on their way to the final. Their performance in Rome adds to the growing legacy of Lander's tennis program and highlights the team's continued presence on the national stage.
