Bearcats Drop a Tough Match Against Alabama Huntsville

Montevallo, Ala. - Despite a challenging 3-0 loss to Alabama Huntsville (UAH), Lander University volleyball (7-3 overall) displayed resilience and grit in their efforts during Saturday's matchup on the final day of the GSC/PBC Crossover in Montevallo.

"We took one on the chin today from an excellent team. While I think we passed well, we couldn't get things rolling offensively. They did a nice job of picking our defense apart throughout the match. The good news is we learned some valuable things this weekend as a team, and we hope to implement the lessons learned as we start the next phase of our season," said head coach Jeff Reynolds.

How it Happened
Lander came out strong in the opening set, pushing UAH to the limit before narrowly falling 25-22. The Bearcats posted an impressive attack percentage of .152, with Katie Miller leading the offensive with seven kills. Defensively, Lander managed to outlast UAH in efficiency, forcing 11 errors from the Chargers.

Lander's defense shined in the second set, with middle blockers Blondie Penaflor and Olivia Dow making key plays at the net. Penaflor tallied four blocks, helping Lander stay in the fight even as the team's attacking efficiency dipped. The Bearcats held UAH to a hitting percentage of just .300, an improvement from the opening set, showing their ability to adjust and contain a powerful Chargers' attack.

The final set proved difficult for Lander, as they struggled to find a rhythm offensively, but their defense remained tenacious. Andrea Crawford's nine digs were pivotal in keeping rallies alive, while Lauren Dow contributed 16 assists, showcasing leadership on the court. Though the Bearcats couldn't overcome UAH's .414 hitting percentage, they refused to back down, battling hard until the final point.
