Bearcats Roar Past Lions in Straight Sets Victory

GREENWOOD - Lander University dominated Emmanuel University in a 3-0 sweep on their home court, improving to 8-3 on the season.

How it Happened

Lander wasted no time establishing their dominance in the first set, beating the Lions 25-18. The Bearcats attacked efficiently, posting a .325 hitting percentage compared to Emmanuel's .098. Katie Miller was the standout, delivering a series of clutch kills totaling seven in the set. Early service errors from Emmanuel helped Lander build momentum. The Bearcats offense took off after a series of strong assists from Lauren Dow, who consistently set up Miller and Madde Blake for points.

The Bearcats continued to showcase their strength in the second set, overcoming Emmanuel's early efforts to take a 25-19 victory. Miller led the charge again with powerful kills, consistently fed by L. Dow, who tallied numerous assists to keep the offense flowing. The set was tightly contested in the beginning, with the score tied at 9-9 after a couple of key kills from both teams. However, Lander's defense stepped up, with Karson Browning and L. Dow combining for timely blocks, giving the Bearcats the lead. Andrea Crawford's service ace at 20-16 further widened the gap, while Lander capitalized on attack errors from Emmanuel to close out the set.

Lander finished strong in a nail-biting third set, edging Emmanuel 27-25 to complete the sweep. The Bearcats took an early lead, jumping to 3-0 behind quick kills from Miller and Blake. The Lions fought back, tying the game at 13-13. However, a key block by Browning and L. Dow, followed by a kill from Olivia Dow, gave Lander momentum at 17-14. In a tense final stretch, Emmanuel tied the set at 24-24, but a kill from Miller, a service ace from Sophia Schneider, and an attack error by Emmanuel sealed the victory for Lander.

Key Performances Lander's impressive all-around performance was highlighted by a .221 hitting percentage, superior blocking (10-6), and a defense that tallied 75 digs to Emmanuel's 69. This win sets Lander up for a strong Peach Belt Conference run.
