FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Lander Softball team scored five runs in the first two innings to take the first game of a non-conference doubleheader against the Emmanuel Lions, 7-1, but found themselves in a six-run hole they couldn't quite battle out of as they dropped the second game 7-5 in the final non-conference games of the regular season for the Bearcats.
Lander now sits at 31-12 overall while Emmanuel sits at 27-22.
Game 1: Lander 7, Emmanuel 1
Lander opened the scoring off another first-career home run, this one a solo shot off the bat of
Linda Moore to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Then in the second inning, Saje Jones laced a two-RBI triple to make it 3-0, and a perfectly executed double steal made it 4-0.
Emily Allen capped the inning with an RBI single to put Lander firmly in control at 5-0.
Emmanuel got a run back in the fourth off a solo shot but the Bearcats scored two off a two-RBI single by
Raquel Camuglia to make it 7-1 and ice the game for good.
Kamryn Akins only needed two runs however as she pitched seven innings of two-hit ball and only allowed one run off the homer in the fourth. The Union, S.C. native only needed to face three batters over the minimum 21 to secure her third win of the year.
Game 2: Emmanuel 7, Lander 5
The Bearcats found themselves in a 6-0 hole after the Lions plated one run in the second, four in the third, and another in the fourth.
Lander fought back as Camuglia got the Blue and Gold on the board with a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 6-2 and the Bearcats plated two more in the sixth off an
Emily Allen single and an Emmanuel error to make it a one-run game at 6-5.
Unfortunately, a passed ball in the bottom of the inning allowed the Lions to score a crucial insurance run to seal the win.
