GREENWOOD - Head coach
Omar Wattad and the Lander men's basketball team have announced two recent additions to the staff.
The Bearcats have added Austin Mick as an Assistant Coach and Dawda Jallow as a Graduate Assistant for the 2023-24 season.Â
"Dawda has been around the game for a long time in various roles. He's an older GA coming back to get his Master's, and I think that bodes well for us since our staff will be extremely young," said coach Wattad. "He's diligent, thorough and has a good mind for the game. I'm happy he's here and excited to work with him this season."
"I am excited to represent Lander men's basketball as the new Graduate Assistant," said Jallow. "I am looking forward to helping this team grow and improve in any way possible."
Mick most recently served as an assistant coach at Div. III Colby-Sawyer in New London, N.H.Â
"Austin is a youngster in this business looking to make a name for himself," said coach Wattad. "All signs point to him being hard working, smart, humble and talented. He's a great addition to the staff and I'm thrilled to work together and continue to improve daily."
Before coaching with the Chargers, Mick played at The College of Staten Island. As a Dolphin, Mich played in 75 games where he started 48. He also averaged 7.9 points with a career-high 11.5 points per game coming in his senior year.Â
"I am blessed to come to the south and be named an Assistant Coach at Lander," said Mick. "I look forward to continuing to build the winning culture here and can't wait to get to work!"
Lander is coming off a 20+ win season that saw the Blue and Gold post a 22-10 overall record that featured wins over two nationally-ranked opponents. The Bearcats played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015-16 where they lost to Lincoln Memorial.
