AIKEN, S.C. – On the final day of the regular season, the Lander men's basketball team took a 67-48 road defeat to the USC Aiken Pacers at the Convocation Center.
Lander closes its regular season with a 15-13 overall record and an even 9-9 mark in Peach Belt Conference play. Aiken went 20-8 and 13-5.
The PBC Tournament begins this Wednesday (March 5) – the top eight teams participate – with seeds 1-4 hosting quarterfinal round games. The Bearcats are in the field with the official bracket to be released tomorrow.
Lander took its first lead of the game with 11:21 left in the first half when
Tim Steele hit a 3-pointer for an 11-10 lead.
After falling behind 22-17, the Blue and Gold scored seven of the game's next nine points to even it at 24 on
Sebastian Augustave's 3 with 2:32 remaining in the half.
Torrin Andrews and
Inady Legiste followed suit and the Bearcats led 30-26 after 20 minutes.
The Pacers tied it up at 32 early in the second half before taking the lead for the remainder of the afternoon.
Lander's bench outscored Aiken's 19-13 for the game.
