St. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Lander scored seven unanswered runs, including four in the seventh inning of game to to complete a doubleheader sweep of Flagler Friday.
GAME ONE
Saje Jones led the game off with a single to left field, and Gracie Derrick followed with her first career home run to put Lander up 2-0. The Bearcats added two more runs in the third on RBI singles by Abbie Behe and Emily Allen to make it a four-run game.
The Saints got on the board with a run in the fourth. In the fifth, Lander got back-to-back one-out singles by Derrick and Behe. With two outs, Allen doubled to right-center to score both runners and make it 6-1. Logan Coward then belted a two-run home run to make it a seven-run game. Flager scored two runs in the fifth, and the sixth to cut the Lander lead to three. The Bearcats would add three insurance runs in the seventh and held on for the 11-5 win.
Allen led the Bearcat offense, going 3-4 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBIs, while Derrick was 2-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two runs driven in. Taylor Scott (13-4) picked up the win allowing three earned runs on eight hits and striking out one batter in six innings of work.
GAME TWO
The Saints raced out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Lander would slowly battle back. Naya Jones reached on an infield single in the top of the third. With two outs, the Bearcats loaded the bases with back-to-back singles by Derrick and Behe. A two-run single by Barbara Cook and an RBI single by Allen made it a 5-3 game. The score would remain 5-3 until the top of the seventh. Naya and Saje Jones led off the inning with infield singles. Behe then reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners. Cook singled through the left side of the infield to make it a one-run game. Allen followed with a two-run triple to left field to give Lander their first lead. She then scored on a single by Coward to make it a 7-5 game. The Bearcats held Flagler scoreless in the bottom of the inning to complete the comeback win.
Allen again led the Lander offense, going 3-4 for the second-straight game, with a triple and three runs driven in. Cook finished the game 2-4 with three RBIs, and Naya Jones was 3-3 with two runs scored. Bailey Pattison (8-4) got the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on eight hits and recording six strikeouts in seven innings.
