Bearcats' offense stays hot as Lander takes two from Wolves

GREENWOOD  - Lander scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally past West Georgia 9-7 in game two to complete the non-conference sweep after winning game one 11-7. 

GAME ONE

The Wolves scored two runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. Gracie Derrick would get hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the inning. After singles by Abbie Behe and Emily Allen loaded the bases, Derrick would score on an infield single by Logan Coward to make it a 2-1 game. The Bearcats would lead in the bottom of the second on a two-out, two-run single by Behe that scored Naya Jones and Saje Jones

West Georgia tied the game with one run in the top of the third. Coward and Shannon Antonini would single with one out, and Rylee Omahen drew a walk to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Hannah Medley would line a two-out pinch-hit double to clear the bases and give the Bearcats a 6-3 lead. Lander outscored the Wolves 5-4 over the final four innings to take the win. 

Behe was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with three RBIs, while Allen was 3-4 with a triple and RBI to lead the Lander offense. Naya Jones finished 3-4 with two runs scored, and Coward had two hits, one run scored, and one run driven in. Barbara Cook also had a three-run home run. Taylor Scott (14-4) picked up the win allowing four runs on six hits in four innings of work. Cook (2) recorded the save striking out two in two and two-thirds of relief.  

GAME TWO

West Georgia again took an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first. Saje Jones led off the bottom of the inning with a single. She would steal second and later score on a groundout by Behe to tie the game at one. The first pitch that Logan Coward saw to lead off the second was deposited over the centerfield wall to give Lander the 2-1 lead. Rylee Omahen drew a one-out walk, and Naya Jones reached on an error to put runners at second and third. Saje Jones's second single in as many innings scored Omahen to give Lander a two-run lead. Behe then doubled to left-center to score two more, making it a 5-1 game. 

The Wolves would score six unanswered runs over their next three at-bats to take a 7-5 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Antonini led the inning off with a home run to left field to cut the deficit to one. Omahen then drew a walk and advanced to second on a ground out. Jillian Terpnaing would pinch hit, and in just her third at-bat of the season, she blasted a home run to left to give Lander the 8-7 lead. An infield single by Coward would score another run and give Lander a two-run lead. 

Coward was 2-4 with a home run and two runs driven in, and Behe was 2-4 with three RBIs to lead the Bearcats' at the plate. Saje Jone finished the game 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as well. Kamryn Akins (1-3) picked up her first career win allowing one run on four hits and striking out two.
