GREENWOOD - Lander and Georgia Southwestern split their PBC doubleheader Saturday. The Bearcats won game one 3-1 and the Hurricanes took game two 6-1.
GAME ONE
After being held hitless through the first three innings, Saje Jones led off the fourth with a single and proceeded to steal second. With one out, Abbie Behe was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. A single by Barbara Cook scored Jones and gave the Bearcats the lead. An RBI groundout by Emilly Allen made it a 2-0 game. In the top of the sixth, the Hurricanes cut the lead to one run with a solo home run. A two-out solo home run by Allen in the bottom half of the inning would extend the Bearcat lead back to two. Cook came into the circle and pitched a scoreless seventh to secure Lander's 3-1 win and pick up her third save.
Saje Jones was 2-3 with a run scored, and Allen was 1-3 with a home run and two runs driven in to lead the Bearcat offense. Taylor Scott (15-4) picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits and striking out five in six innings of work.
GAME TWO
The Hurricanes scored two runs in the first and fourth to take a 4-0 lead. A two-out RBI single by Logan Coward in the bottom of the inning got Lander on the board and made it 4-1. Georgia Southwestern added two more runs to take the victory and even the series.
Coward was 1-3 with a run driven in, while Shannon Antonini, Cook, Saje Jones, and Derrick each had singles. Bailey Pattison (8-5) took the loss allowing four runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
