SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After a week that saw a late schedule change, the Lander Track and Field teams took to the track for their last meet before the PBC Championships on April 20th and 21st as they took part in the Hub City Invitational at the Jim and Elaine Track on Friday. Overall, Lander saw eight athletes place in the top eight and score points for the team in both the track and field events.
Ashley Euerle and
Angellyn Hyde both scored top eight finishes in the 400m. Euerle finished fifth in a time of 1:02.45 and Hyde finished seventh in a time of 1:04.40. Also on the track,
Reagan Hunter placed seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 13.19.
For the men on the track,
Riley Bird scored for the second straight week in the 3000m steeplechase as he placed eighth in a time of 11:57.62/
In the field events, the Bearcats had a pair of sixth and eighth place finishes. Alejandra Sabotino Barrios placed sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 21.21m and Addison Davis scored another point by placing eighth with a final mark of 20.68m. In the discus,
Morgan Swinton added another top-eight preformance to her season as she placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 24.04m and
Emma Avant placed eighth with a 20.59m throw.
The Bearcats will now get ready for the PBC Track and Field Championships in Daytona Beach in two weeks at the Embry Riddle Track Complex. The Bearcats have nine athletes that rank within the top-ten of PBC preformances this season in their respective events.
