Several Top-Ten Finishes Highlight Bearcats' Day at Gotta Run Invitational

CENTRAL, S.C. - After a delayed start due to thunderstorms in the upstate, the Lander Track and Field teams competed for the third straight week at the Gotta Run Invitational, hosted by Southern Wesleyan. The day was highlighted by six top-ten finishes by the Bearcats and several PRs across the board for both the men and women.

John Johnson had the highest finish of the day for the Bearcats as he placed third in the high jump with a final jump of 1.85m, the third best jump among Peach Belt teams this season. Johnson wasn't finished there as he placed ninth in the long jump with a final mark of 6.05m.

On the track for the men, Riley Bird placed eighth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:50.21. Bird became the first Bearcat to run in the event in the program's short history.

In the 100m, Frank Thiele won his heat of the event with a final time of 11.47s

For the women, Morgan Swinton placed sixth and Caroline Smith placed ninth in the shot put. Swinton threw 9.47m and Smith threw 9.19m to secure their top-ten finishes.

Riley Wolters, fresh off a third place finish behind two division one athletes last week, placed tenth in the high jump with a final jump of 1.40m. Wolters sits sixth on the PBC leaderboard with her 1.40m mark.

In the 200m, Ashley Eurele and Reagan Hunter placed second and third in their heats with times of 26.88 and 26.99, respectively.

Both teams will be back in action next weekend as they take part in the Hub City Invitational, hosted by Newberry College.
