GREENWOOD - Lander extended their winning streak to eight as they completed their second-straight conference series sweep, defeating USC Beaufort 8-0 Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, the Bearcats got back-to-back solo home runs from Barbara Cook and Emily Allen to lead off the second inning and take a 2-0 lead. Abbie Behe led off the third with a walk and a bunt single by Logan Coward, putting runners first and second. Cook laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up, and then Behe scored on a single by Allen to make it 3-0. Allen then stole second, and the throw from the USC Beaufort catcher got away, allowing Coward to score to give Lander a four-run lead.
The Bearcats scored a run in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the fifth, Allen tripled to centerfield and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shannon Antonini to put the Bearcats up by six runs. In the bottom of the sixth, Naya Jones led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Rylee Omahen. Hannah Medley would get a pinch-hit single to put runners on the corners. Behe then singled to score both runners and give Lander the 8-0 win in six innings.
Allen was a double shy of hitting for the cycle and finished 3-3 with her first collegiate home run, a triple, and two RBIs to lead the Bearcat offense. Cook finished 1-2 with a home run and a run driven in, while Behe was 1-3 with two RBIs. Taylor Scott (6-3) picked up her second win of the weekend, allowing just four hits and striking out three in the complete game shutout.
