GREENWOOD - Lander scored all six runs with two outs and held on to defeat USC Aiken 6-3 in the opening game of the Peach Belt series.
GAME ONE
Saje Jones led off the bottom of the first with an infield single and later scored on a double by Abbie Behe to give Lander the 1-0 lead. USC Aiken would tie the game with a solo home run in the third. Barbara Cook singled at the bottom of the fourth, and Emily Allen reached on an error. With one out, Shannon Antonini blasted a home run to left field to give Lander a 4-1 lead.
The Pacers score two runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to tie the game at four. Logan Coward led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to give the Bearcats a one-run lead. Down to their last out, and with the bases loaded, USC Aiken scored three runs to take a 7-5 lead. Saje Jones led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single, and a one-out single by Behe put runners at first and second. A pitch would hit Cook to load the bases for Allen. She would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to make it a one-run game, but Lander could not complete the comeback.
Behe was 3-4 with a double and RBI, while Jones was 3-4 with two runs scored to lead the Bearcats. Antonini finished 1-3 with a home run and three runs driven in. Olivia Veidt (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs on one hit in one-third of an inning of relief.
GAME TWO
Gracie Derrick doubled to left field with one out and scored on a single by Abbie Behe. Barbara Cook drew a walk, and a single by Emily Allen loaded the bases for Lander. An infield single by Shannon Antonini scored Behe to make it 2-0. The Pacer catcher tried to pick Antonini off, and the throw got away, allowing Cook to score and Allen to move to third. The Bearcats executed a double steal to make it 4-0. An RBI single by Naya Jones scored Antonini to finish the scoring in the first and give Lander the 5-0 lead.
USC Aiken used a solo home run in the second, and a two-run home run in the third to cut the lead to 5-3, but Lander would hold on for the win to take the win and the series.
Gracie Derrick was 2-4 with a double and run scored, and Naya Jones was 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Lander offense. Taylor Scott (12-4) got the win allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three in seven innings of work.
