GREENWOOD - Lander scored all six runs with two outs and held on to defeat USC Aiken 6-3 in the opening game of the Peach Belt series.
Saje Jones led off with a single in the bottom of the first and stole second base. She then scored on a two-out RBI single by Barbara Cook to give Lander the lead. The Pacers would take the lead with back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the fourth. Shannon Antonini reached on an infield single and later scored on a two-out single by Naya Jones to tie the game at two. Saje Jones then singled, and Gracie Derrick drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Abbie Behe followed with a four-pitch walk to score Naya and give the Bearcats the 3-2 lead.
The Pacers tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. Naya Jones singled in the bottom half of the inning and advanced to second on a ground out. An infield single by Derrick put runners at the corners with two outs. A wild pitch would score Jones, move Derrick to second, and give Lander a one-run lead. A single by Behe scored Derrick, and an RBI single by Allen would make it 6-3, and the Bearcats held on for the win.
Cook was 2-3 with, and RBI and Behe was 1-3 with two RBIs to lead the Lander offense. Allen was 2-4 with a run driven in, and Saje Jones was 2-4 with a run scored. Taylor Scott (11-4) picked up the win allowing three runs on six hits, and struck out seven in seven innings.
