MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Georgia College and State University used a seven-run third inning to take a 7-2 victory over Lander in the final game of the team's Peach Belt softball series.
After neither team crossed the plate for the first two and a half innings, the Bobcats exploded for seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the third to take the lead. The Bearcats tried to stage a comeback in the top of the seventh. Gracie Derrick and Abbie Behe both singled to lead off the inning, and a one-out single by Emily Allen would load the bases for Lander. Logan Coward laced a double to left field to score Derrick and Behe to make it 7-2, but Georgia College would escape with no more damage to take the win.
Coward's double and two runs driven in led the Bearcats at the plate. Kamryn Akins (0-2) took the loss allowing six earned runs on five hits in two innings of work.
