Bearcats dominate twice Friday; Taylor Scott no-hits Erskine in second game

GREENWOOD - Lander opened up their home schedule with two dominating performances Friday afternoon to start the Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic. The Bearcats' offense exploded for 16 runs in two games, and the Lander pitchers didn't allow a run in either game and only allowed four hits in two games, including a no-hitter against Erskine in game two by Taylor Scott

GAME ONE

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Abbie Behe laced a triple off the top of the wall in left-center field and then scored when Logan Coward reached on a Claflin error to give Lander a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats would make it a four-run game in the second inning. Barbara Cook and Gracie Derrick walked, and an infield single by Naya Jones loaded the bases with one out. Rylee Omahen grounded out to score Cook, and Saje Jones singled to left-center to score two more.

With no one on and two outs in the fourth, Derrick singled through the left side and then scored on the double by Naya Jones to make it 5-0 Lander. Saje Jones led off with a single in the bottom of the fifth and proceeded to steal second. After Abbie Behe drew a walk, Logan Coward singled to center field to score Jones. Later in the inning, Behe would score on a ground out by Cook to make it 7-0.

Bailey Pattison (2-1) recorded the complete game shutout allowing just four hits and striking out nine to pick up the win. Saje Jones led the Bearcat offense going 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Naya Jones finished 2-3 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI, while Behe was 1-3 with a triple and two runs scored.

GAME TWO

After a scoreless first inning, Barbara Cook would reach on a single, and then Shannon Antonini drew a walk to put runners at first and second. A bunt single by Gracie Derrick would load the bases for Lander. Naya Jones then stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam to put the Bearcats up 4-0. Rylee Omahen thins singled through the left side, and Saje Jones drew a walk. The two runners would score on the double to right field by Abbie Behe to make it 6-0 after two innings.

A solo home run by Antonini in the third would increase the Lander lead to seven. In the fourth, Logan Coward would reach on a fielder's choice to score Omahen, who walked to lead off the inning. Regan Lunsford followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Saje Jones and make it a 9-0 game. Scott would retire the side in the fifth to end the game and secure the no-hitter.

Jones finished the game 1-2 with the grand slam and four RBIs, while Behe was 2-2 with a double and two runs driven in to lead the Bearcat offense. Scott (2-2) struck out six and allowed just one base runner with a walk to record the win in the circle.
