GREENWOOD - After falling down 4-0 in the top of the first, Lander scored seven unanswered runs and held off a seventh-inning rally to defeat Limestone 10-9 Saturday afternoon.
Limestone jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first before Barbara Cook came into the circle to get the Bearcats out of the inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Saje Jones drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single by Abbie Behe. A ground ball to second base by Logan Coward scored Jones to cut the Lander deficit to 4-1.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the third inning, Coward would blast a home run to right-center field to make it a two-run game. Regan Lunsford then singled through the right side, and Cook connected for the Bearcats' second home run of the inning to tie the game at four. Lander would take the lead an inning later when Gracie Derrick singled and later scored on a single up the middle by Saje Jones. Behe followed up with a blast off the scoreboard in center field to make it 7-4.
After Limestone scored to make it a two-run game in the fifth, the Bearcats answered with their third-straight three-run inning to break the game open at 10-5.
The Saints would score four runs in the seventh, but the Bearcats would hold on for the win.
Behe led the Lander offense going 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Coward finished the game 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Derrick had two singles and scored two runs. Cook (1-0) picked up the win allowing one run on five hits and striking out two in four and two-thirds innings of relief.
